Card game
Teen Patti: rules and how to play
A three-card game where the ranking of your hand decides the winner.
- Players
- Usually 3 to 6
- Cards
- One 52-card deck, 3 cards each
- Goal
- Hold the highest-ranking three-card hand
Teen Patti is played with three cards each from a standard 52-card deck. Once the cards are dealt, the strength of each three-card hand decides who wins, so the most important thing to learn is the ranking.
Hand rankings, highest to lowest
| # | Hand | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Trail (set) | Three cards of the same rank, such as three kings. Three aces is the highest. |
| 2 | Pure sequence | Three consecutive cards of the same suit, such as 4, 5, 6 of hearts. |
| 3 | Sequence | Three consecutive cards of mixed suits, such as 7 of clubs, 8 of hearts, 9 of spades. |
| 4 | Colour | Three cards of the same suit that are not in sequence. |
| 5 | Pair | Two cards of the same rank plus one other card. |
| 6 | High card | None of the above. The highest card decides. |
Variants differ on details, for example whether A-2-3 ranks above K-Q-J in a sequence. Agree the house rules before you start.
